The First International Quilt Show – Dubai was a grand success

We had 110 quilts participating in the competition based on the theme Harmony. Congratulations to Paramjeet Bawa for winning Best of Show and Viewer’s Choice for her art quilt, “Together We Tide Over (Dust Storm).” Her prize was a Bernina Aurora 440 quilter’s edition sewing machine. Please view her quilt and the other prize winning quilts in the current news section.

The exhibition had 1,057 visitors and the Gala Dinner had an attendance of 225. His Excellency Gerhard Bruegger, Consul General from the Swiss Consulate in Dubai, was the Chief Guest. There were 10 workshops conducted by renowned teachers from the U.K., Australia and the Middle East with an average attendance of 15 per class.

The next International Quilt Show will be in February 2010, however, we are planning to hold a mini show in February 2009 between the GCC countries which will include some workshops. Information will be posted on this website as it becomes available.

Our sincere thanks to everyone who participated in this event, from the wonderful staff of the Dhow Palace to our teachers and volunteers, whether you entered a quilt, took a class, or just viewed the exhibit, you each made a difference and contributed to the success of this Show!

Sincerely,

Shanker Ramakrishnan
